Partial Hospitalization Program

Zelus Recovery logo

Recovery is a team effort

When people in Boise and the greater Treasure Valley make the brave decision to seek help for addiction or co-occurring mental health concerns, choosing the right level of care matters. For some, 24-hour residential treatment is the right fit. For others, an intensive outpatient option is enough. Many families find that a partial hospitalization program in Idaho offers a perfect blend: the structure of a full day of services with the flexibility to return home in the evening.

At Zelus Recovery, our Boise team offers a compassionate, evidence-informed approach that supports adolescents, young adults, adults, and families. If you are exploring a Boise PHP, you can learn more about our Boise partial hospitalization program or talk with us to review your needs. To start a conversation, call 208.518.0797 or reach out online.

What is a partial hospitalization program?

A partial hospitalization program, often called a PHP or day program, is a structured option that delivers several hours of therapy and skill building during the day, then participants return home in the evening. It is an alternative for people who need more than weekly therapy yet are unable to pause work, school, or caregiving for inpatient care. PHP is more intensive than standard outpatient services while not requiring an overnight stay.

Who benefits from a PHP in Boise

PHP can fit a wide range of needs, especially for people experiencing significant symptoms that require daily support, structure, and monitoring. It can help adolescents and adults stabilize after a crisis, step down from inpatient treatment, or step up from an intensive outpatient program when more care is required. PHP can also be appropriate for:

  • Individuals with co-occurring mental health issues like anxiety or depression who need intensive therapy but have a safe living environment
  • Patients who are motivated to participate in groups and individual sessions and can manage transportation
  • Families seeking a clinically managed bridge between inpatient and outpatient care

If you are unsure whether PHP is the right fit, our team will review your goals, risks, and support system with you to assess the most appropriate level of care.

Zelus Recovery’s philosophy and clinical approach

Zelus Recovery serves Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and nearby communities in the state of Idaho with an integrated, family-centered model. Our clinicians focus on the whole person, not just diagnoses, and collaborate with your existing provider whenever possible. Care plans are individualized, paced to your readiness, and emphasize safety, skills, and connection.

What this looks like in practice:

  • Evidence informed therapies including cognitive behavioral strategies, dialectical behavior skills training, relapse prevention, and family sessions, as clinically indicated
  • Medication evaluation and ongoing coordination with a prescriber when medication is part of your treatment plan
  • Recovery coaching to help translate skills into real-life situations at home, school, and work
  • Trauma-sensitive care that respects culture, identity, and preferences

What a typical day and schedule may include

Daily structure and exact times vary, and will be reviewed with you during admission. A sample day, Monday through Friday, generally includes 5 to 6 clinical hours with breaks. You can expect a mix of several of the following, on a given day:

  • Morning check-in, goal setting, and safety planning
  • Skills-based groups that build coping tools, communication, and relapse prevention
  • Psychoeducation on the brain, recovery, and healthy routines
  • Individual therapy to address personal goals and progress
  • Family or caregiver session as appropriate
  • Medication check-ins with a prescriber when required
  • Wrap up, next-day planning, and supportive peer feedback

Regular attendance is important to your success. If attendance concerns arise, we will review barriers and explore solutions together.

Services commonly provided in a PHP

While services are tailored, participants typically engage in a mix of the following services, provided by licensed clinicians and social workers:

  • Group programming, including skills groups and process-based therapy
  • Individual counseling that targets the issues most important to you
  • Family sessions to strengthen communication and boundaries
  • Medication support and coordination when medications are part of your plan
  • Recovery planning that prepares you for evenings, weekends, and transitions
  • Case management to connect with school supports, employers, or community resources

Our goal is to help treat both substance concerns and mental health conditions together, since these often influence each other.

Your first day at Zelus Recovery

Before your first day, our team will contact you to review what to bring, transportation, and any paperwork that is required. On day one, you will meet with a clinician to complete a safety screen, discuss goals, and confirm your initial plan. If you have questions in advance, please see our Frequently Asked Questions or call 208.518.0797 to speak with our team.

Insurance coverage and cost

In the journey toward recovery, one of the most significant concerns individuals and their families often face is the cost of treatment. At Zelus Recovery, we understand that seeking treatment for addiction can be overwhelming and intimidating, so we try to make it as simple as possible for you.

Insurance coverage plays a pivotal role in addiction treatment, providing financial support for programs like detoxification, outpatient services, residential care, and aftercare. By understanding your insurance benefits, you can make informed decisions about your path to recovery. We accept a variety of major insurance plans to help cover the costs of our programs. While the extent of coverage depends on your policy (including deductibles, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximums and required authorizations), many plans cover a significant portion of treatment services.

What comes next after PHP

Length of participation in PHP varies, and discharge is based on progress toward goals, stability of symptoms, and your support system. Many people step down to intensive outpatient or outpatient counseling. Discharge planning and aftercare includes:

  • A written plan with ongoing therapy, psychiatry, or recovery support
  • Referrals to community resources that fit your recovery journey
  • A safety plan for evenings and weekends, including crisis options and coping tools
  • Peer connection through the Zelus Recovery alumni program

We will meet with you regularly during PHP to review progress, update goals, and decide together when it is time to step down.
