Summertime is in full swing, and that means lots of parties and good times. Summer brings extra temptations for men and women struggling with addiction, as everyone around you seems to be drinking. You can still go to those parties and have fun while drinking non-alcoholic party drinks. The simple act of having a drink in your hand can go a long way toward curbing your cravings while at a party. An alcohol addiction treatment program can teach you how to enjoy those summer parties while still maintaining your sobriety.
At Zelus Recovery, we help teenagers and adults who are struggling with addiction to alcohol, marijuana, or other substances. Our behavioral therapists and medical staff work together to create a tailored treatment program that addresses all aspects of addiction and gives patients confidence in maintaining their sobriety no matter what life throws at them. How to Stay Sober During Summer Parties
Alcohol sales spike each year throughout summer as people get out and enjoy the warm weather and celebrate. For those who struggle with alcohol addiction, summer comes with a lot of temptations and fears of relapsing. Many people wrongly assume they have to stay away from their friends and parties to maintain their sobriety, but locking yourself inside is not the answer and can lead to a relapse.
At Zelus Recovery, our patients learn helpful tips on how to stay sober during summer parties and other important recovery tips through our outpatient treatment facility.
3 Non-Alcoholic Party Drinks for Your Sober Summer Party
Men and women working on their recovery will find having a sober summer is easier than they think. There are hundreds of non-alcoholic party drinks that are easy to make and very refreshing. Here are three non-alcoholic party drinks that you can make for a sober summer party:
- Watermelon Lemonade – This is a fun non-alcoholic party drink that comes in its own serving bowl. You will need the following ingredients:
- 1-2 watermelons
- 4 ½ cups of lemonade, fresh or canned
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 lime
- 4 cups soda water
Cut the top off the watermelon and hollow it out with a large spoon. Mash the fruit through a strainer and mix with lemonade and sugar. Place it in a blender and select purée. Fill the hollowed-out watermelons with ice and pour the mix into the bowls.
2. Blackberry Spritzer – This mocktail is easy to make and perfect for outdoor summer parties. This recipe calls for:
- 2-3 blackberries
- 1 1/2oz orange juice
- 1 oz lemon juice
- Cinnamon syrup
- Soda water
In a cocktail shaker, crush the blackberries with a spoon, then mix in all other ingredients and shake. Strain over a glass with ice and top with some soda water.
3. Pomegranate Mojito – This is a refreshing summer mocktail with all the flavor of a mojito without the alcohol. The ingredients include:
- 3 tablespoons of Pomegranate seeds (separate the seeds into ice cube trays, cover with water and freeze the night before)
- Fresh mint leaves
- 2 limes
- 4 cups pomegranate juice
- 2 cups lemonade
Save half of the mint for serving, and mix the rest with the two limes quartered in a bowl. Mash up the lime and mint until well mixed and aromatic. Add the pomegranate, lemonade, and ice cubes. Mix well and enjoy!
